David Layfer '06 (President): David is senior counsel at the biopharmaceutical company AbbVie and, prior to that, was an associate in the Product Liability and Mass Torts Group at Sidley Austin LLP.  He graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in political science in 2002 and received his J.D. in 2006.  David was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and currently lives in Lakeview with his wife, Amy and two sons, Jack and Emmett.  Outside of work, David keeps himself busy running marathons, going to Cubs games, and making baby formula/changing diapers. 


Jeannie Evans '97 (First Vice President): Jeannie is a co-founder and partner at Agrawal Evans LLP — a commercial litigation boutique firm based in Chicago and handling cases around the country.  She represents corporations and professional firms, as well as their officers, directors, and partners, in high-stakes business disputes.  The firm shares risk with its clients through results-based fee arrangements, aligning the firm’s incentives with the client’s goals.  Prior to founding Agrawal Evans, Jeannie practiced complex commercial litigation at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.  Jeannie enjoys tennis, running, and swimming in Lake Michigan with her husband and children.  


Ravi Shankar '10 (Second Vice President): Ravi is a clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  Previously he was an associate in the Insurance Recovery and Counseling Group at Jenner & Block LLP.  His practice focuses on representing policyholders in their insurance coverage disputes.  Ravi lives in Chicago with his wife and son.

Tanya Witt '94 (Secretary): Tanya is a divorce lawyer in the boutique family law firm she founded. Tanya and her firm represent men and women in Cook County and the surrounding counties. She is experienced in high net worth and international divorces. Prior to starting her own firm, Tanya practiced with Baker & McKenzie. Tanya lives in River North with her husband and their two dogs.




Hanna Stotland '02 (Immediate Past President):  Hanna is an admissions consultant, counseling her clients throughout the college, law school, and business school application process (http://hannastotland.webs.com).  She was previously a career counselor at Northwestern University School of Law, specializing in clerkships and alumni counseling and, prior to that, practiced litigation at Jenner & Block and then at Stowell & Friedman, a civil rights boutique. Hanna also served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Elaine E. Bucklo in the Northern District of Illinois and the Hon. Ann C. Williams of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  


Stacey Austin '04:  Stacey is a partner at Wang Kobayashi Austin, LLC, an employee benefits and executive compensation boutique law firm.  Previously she practiced for six years in the employee benefits and executive compensation group at Winston & Strawn LLP. Stacey is the immediate past president of the Harvard Law School Women's Alliance and serves as Vice President of the Executive Committee of  the Harvard Law School Association.  She lives in Chicago with her husband, Patrick (HLS ’04), and their two children.





Kourtney Baltzar '12: Kourtney is an intellectual property associate at Kirkland & Ellis where she focuses her practice on patent litigation matters and patent-related ITC proceedings. At HLS she was editor-in-chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology.  She is also a member of the Illinois Legal Aid Online Young Professionals Board.






Alexis Chernak '10:  Alexis is an associate at Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen, where she focuses her practice on community development and affordable housing finance.  Prior to joining Applegate, she practiced commercial litigation involving corporate, contractual and financial restructuring issues at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.





Dan Ebner '04: Dan practices at Prather Ebner LLP, a firm he founded with his partner Ray Prather, and is an adjunct professor at the Chicago-Kent School of Law. Dan’s practice focuses on will and trust contests, probate, guardianship, and other forms of fiduciary litigation. Prior to forming Prather Ebner, Dan was a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and clerked for the Honorable Samuel Hardy Mays of the Western District of Tennessee. At HLS he was a research assistant for Professor Elizabeth Warren and was involved in HLS Lambda. Dan lives in Lincoln Park with Ray and their dogs Brioche and Crouton—cooking is a major hobby.



Lisa Forbes '02:  Lisa is General Counsel at Sheffield Asset Management, a Chicago-based investment management firm focused on equity long/short investing..  Previously, she was a recruiter with Lateral Link, Deputy General Counsel at Deefield Capital Management, and an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.





Jeffrey Jamison '06:  Jeffrey is Senior Counsel and Vice President at BMO Financial Group. Previously, Jeffrey was an attorney at Dykema Gossett PLLC, Katten Muchin Rosenman and Sperling & Slater and, prior to law school, served as the Litigation Assistant to Professor Laurence H. Tribe. Jeffrey is also a runner and has completed seven marathons. Jeffrey lives in Evanston with his wife and two children--Jeffrey is an avid Chicago sports fan.




Jenny Johnson '98: Jenny is founder of Johnson Moore, LLC, a tax litigation boutique, where she handles complex tax disputes of significant value for clients ranging from individuals to multinational corporations.  Prior to forming Johnson Moore, she was a partner at Holland & Knight LLP and Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.  Jenny is also is an adjunct professor on the tax faculty at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, currently teaching Investigation, Prosecution and Defense of Tax Crimes.  Jenny lives with her three children in Western Springs.




Julie Klaff '10: Julie is a vice president in the legal department of Oragami Capital Parnters.  Previously she was an associate in the Investment Products and Derivatives Group at Sidley Austin LLP.  Julie graduated from Harvard Law School in 2010 and Cornell Uniersity in 2006.  At HLS, Julie was a member of the Board of Student Advisors and was the president of the Harvard Law Golf Club.  In her spare time Julie loves to golf and ski.  Julie lives in Wicker Park with her husband, Dan (HLS '08).




Samuel Levine '12: Samuel is a clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  Previously he was an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, where he enforced state and federal consumer protection laws through investigations and lawsuits.






Maria Maras '04:  Maria is Senior Legal Counsel for Intellectual Property Litigation and Disputes at Accenture LLP.  She was previosuly a partner at Kirkland and Ellis LLP.  At HLS, Maria was an active member of the HLS Drama Society and produced the Parody in 2004.  She lives in Wicker Park with her husband and two children. 





Elizabeth Marino '10:  Elizabeth is a litigation associate at Jones Day.  At HLS she was editor-in-chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology.






Nancy Temple '89:  Nancy is a partner at Katten Temple LLP, where she practices commercial litigation. Nancy also serves on the Leadership Council for the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, the Adler Planetarium Women’s Board, the Lyric Guild Board and the Da Corneto Opera Board.







Lori Zahalka '05: Lori is a litigation partner at Mayer Brown LLP.  Her practice focuses on complex commercial disputes as well as labor and employment litigation.  Lori lives in Chicago with her husband, daughter and son.
